I'm back fishing and posting!

Hi!
After a long break caused by personal issues I've finally decided to go back to blogging. Recently (Last 1,5 year) i had no much time for fishing, although I did some good trips and caught nice fishes. I will make a fast update in this entry and next posts and than I will be able to move with current news.

First thing to write about must be my best trip last year. It was september. Water level in Odra river was very low. It was hot and sunny. I arrived on my best spot in the morning and started hammering with Hunter lures for asp. After maybe 20 minutes i felt a good stron bite in the middle of strong stream. The fight took almost 10 minutes. Asps were very strong and fat after summer. Especially this one :) Lucky for me I landed my biggest asp this year - 74cm

After releasing the fish I went downstream because it made too much noise n my spot. I travelled ~2km and caught only small chub and 45cm asp. After that I decided to make a break, eat something, drink a beer and rest a little. After few hours I came back to my spot and caught another - even bigger asp. Not so fat, but much longer 80cm fish. It was my PB and it will be for a while I suppose.

Unfortunatelly I one hook from my lure stuck in my finger during unhooking. Nevertheless nothing could take my joy of catching 2 so big asps in one day. Both fishes are growing bigger and I'm looking forward to catch them again this year! :)

Short report

My job is killing me recently... That is why a haven't enough time for fishing. Although with my friend Marek we decide to go for fishing at least for 3 hours in the morning. We didn't expect co catch something good in such a short time but there was a little bit of hope :)

We arrived to Kozłowa Góra dam reservoir at 6.30, it was dark, cloudy and foggy. Temperature - just above freezing. We started to fish for pike and zander. I tried my new lure - Savege Gear Real Eel - Works awesome! Will be my kiler :)

We had some delicate bites, but we couldn't hook any fish. Finally Marek caught first small pike, He unhooked him fast and we started to fish a little bit better. We caught 4 small pikes and o 1 baby zander. It isn't a dream catch, but I think it could be worse.

I hope that weather will allow to fish a few more times before water freezes... And with better result of course!! :)

Natalia with beautiful rainbow

After a long break i have to catch up with my reports :)
This time i want to show you photos from our (my and my fiancee Natalia) trim to Czarna Przemsza river (previously described on this blog) It was one of the first warmer days of new year - beginning of march 2012.

We decided to spend whole day on fishing and picnic:) We arrived to Przeczyce (small village on the Czarna Przemsza river) at 9PM and after short briefing we started fishing and walking enjoying nature. It was a beautiful sunny day, and Natalia also was the lucky one - catching fantastic rainbow. Pictures speak for themselves:

Good fishing day with Natalia

Good fishing day with my girlfriend Natalia

Today we went to try float fishing in a new pond. It is not so far from us and it is a private fishery. We started fishing at about 2PM in a silent, overgrown corner (bay) of the pond. I put some groundbait with canned corn into the water. As hook bait we have been using maggot and corn.

Natalia caught first fishes - at about 5 nie rudds (between 8 and 10in). We have seen lot of nice fishes jumping all over the pond.

Once there was very big carp (maybe 15 - 20lb) swimming among our floats. I was trying to catch something bigger, but I wasn't this lucky one today:) Some small perches - it was all for me:) Finally we had one nice bite, but we couldn't land this fish.

After that Natalia caught 3 beautiful crucians with the biggest last one - our new RECORD - 16in and over 2lb big, fat crucian!! BRAVO!!!!

During fishing we had a little picnic also. It was great day. At the end of the day I tried some spinning for pike, but I only lost my ripper tail because of some shilly-shally pike:)

All fishes are still alive! C&R as always!!!

Can't wait to repeat this!

Dunajec river - where danube salmon lives

Dunajec is a polish biggest mountain river with trout, grayling and danube salmon.

It is running through southern Poland and it is right tributary of the Vistula river. Dunajec is a border between Poland and Slovakia for 27km while running through Pieniny mountain range.

There is a big dam reservoir on this river - Czorsztyn Lake. The best places for fishing are from this reservoir to estuary to the Vistula.

What kind of fish can we catch?

Mainly: Danube Salmon, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Grayling, Chub, Barbel and sometimes zander or pike, when they come from Czorsztyn Lake.

Water in Dunajec is very cold all over the year because it comes from bottom vent on Czorsztyn dam reservoir. In summer it gets warmer with every mile.

Fishing in Dunajec river in summer is focused mainly on grayling and trout. In winter almost every one try to catch danube salmon. This fish, called "The Queen of Dunajec" is some kind of symbol of Dunajec.
Main fishing methods are flyfishing spinning. Sometimes people fish for barbel or bream with bread or cheese.

Even if you have no bites it is fantastic to fish in Dunajec because of stunning Pieniny views. Dunajec is quite far from me, but I am here as often as possible. I want to share with you some of my photos. I hope some of you will come to Poland and will fish in my favourite river!

Pikes from Chechło-Nakło

Chechło-Nakło

is a small lake (90 hectars) located in a middle of forest between Tarnowskie Góry and Miasteczko Śląskie.  The average depth is about 8 - 10ft, but you can also find 20ft depth spots. The main fish of this lake is Pike. Every year people catch a few of them, bigger than 25 pounds. Of course it doesn't happen every day. Normal average size of pikes cought here is between 3 and 10 pounds.

Best lures for them are middle sized jerkbaits, like Salmo Slider and Salmo Jack and big Softlures, like Relax Kopyto 6. Of course big spinners, spinnerbaits, crankbaits (Rapala Shad Rap 9) and slashbaits (Rapala X-Rap) are also effective.
When water is cold you can find here fantastic perch!  Sometimes over 15in. I often have some of them while fishing for pike, but  it is just an incident.  For few years i hear about quite nice catfishes from this lake. My friend had one (50in) last year. I will try to catch some in summer with crankbait like Salmo Boxer, Manns Baby or Rapala DT.

Kozlowa Gora Lake

Kozłowa Góra is a big dam resorvoir is south Poland next to Piekary Śląskie. It is 550 hectars big. Middle depth is about 8ft, while the deepest spots are at about 14ft. Kozłowa Góra is very shallow, but we can find here lot of big zanders and pikes. The biggest zander form this lake is over 25 pounds!!
To have bigger chances it is necessary to use a boat, whitch you can always rent here, but you can't use your own boat! While fishing on Kozłowa Góra I usually use spinning or casting. My favourite lures for pike are big plastic jigs like RELAX KOPYTO 6'' or jerkbaits like SALMO SLIDER 10. There is no better lure for zander than "kogut" - special jig made of cock capes. I make this jigs myself. I describe how, with photos soon.
The season here starts in June and ends in december. he best results I have in June and from october to december. It isn't a big problem to catch about 10 pikes and zander by a day.

Czarna Przemsza River

Czarna Przemsza

is a small river in south Poland, near to Katowice. Today I'm describing the part of river from Przeczyce Lake, to Będzin City. I'm frequent guest on this spot. In summer you can catch beautiful brown trout or big grayling. But in winter months I try to find one of hard fighting rainbows.

When I'm flyfishing I use nymph, like Mayfly nymph, Peacock nymph, Woven polish nymph or Pheasant tail. Also gut choice for rainbows would be big streamer like Wooly buger or Orange, White marabou. My favourite spinning lures are small crankbaits, like salmo hornet. Mostly in natural colors. Also good is small jig or spinner mepps aglia #2.
